Hello Book Friends,

I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your support, because without you, there really wouldn’t be a Shelf Safe Books.

I’ve been learning a lot as I build this blog, from creating posts and Pins to sending out a weekly email and sharing on social media. It has definitely been a learning curve, and I wanted to let you see a little behind the curtain.

This blog started from my own struggle to find clean books for my family. What began as a simple idea quickly turned into something more as I worked through what families are searching for and what they are trying to avoid.

I purchased the domain on 12/7/25 and began building book lists while learning Wix, which I am still figuring out. I started Pinterest in January, and by the end of February it had grown to over 5,000 monthly views. It has dipped a bit recently as I paused new posts to go back and re-vet books and update links.

As I go through the posts, I am replacing the current links with button links for both Amazon and Bookshop.org. I still have over half of my posts left to review, and I am hoping to have everything caught up by the end of next month while continuing to build new lists.

When I first started this project back in November, I promised myself I would do it to the best of my ability. That has meant learning as I go.

Some books I originally included did have content that does not meet the three Cornerstones for Shelf Safe, but they are now labeled correctly and remain for transparency. Thankfully, the review process I was using did help me catch many others along the way. Still, finding the ones that slipped through was discouraging, and it reminded me that this kind of vetting takes time.

My goal has always been to create a helpful resource for families who want to find good, clean stories. I want this site to feel like a PG to PG-13 resource where harder topics are handled with care so they can lead to meaningful conversations.

I took some time to step back, pray, and think through how I want to approach vetting books going forward. My process will now include personally checking each book through library copies, Kindle samples, bookstore visits, and trusted review sources.

Right now, this blog mostly feels like the most expensive TBR list I have ever made, especially since I am exploring genres I do not normally read. But the goal has always been to build a trustworthy resource first.

I applied for Amazon affiliate links back in December, and this week I reached my third qualifying purchase and was fully approved as an Amazon Associate. I was also approved for Bookshop.org in February. Thank you for being part of that.

In the first three months, Shelf Safe Books has reached over 1,000 page views from 51 posts and 536 unique visitors. Seeing people visit from all over the world has been such a thrill and joy, and I truly appreciate each of you being here.

Right now, I am working to balance finding and vetting books, homeschooling, caring for my home, and spending time with my kids. That balance matters to me, and I want this space to reflect real life as well.

Thank you for hanging in there with me as I continue learning and improving.

I hope in the weeks ahead you make time to read something Shelf Safe.
