Kids’ Library Picks

Young child sitting on a bed with blue blanket, reading a colorful book. The book shows illustrations of dogs and construction vehicles. Calm mood.
My 3rd Child Reading Build Dogs Build

My children love going to the library, and we actually go more often now because of all the books for this blog. These are the picture books they picked this week, and all of them have been fun to read. Go see if you can find them at your local library!

Two ballerinas in pink dresses dance joyfully on stage. The cover reads "Bunheads, Act 2: The Dance of Courage" by Misty Copeland.

🩰 Bunheads 2: The Dance of Courage – Misty Copeland

In this follow-up story, young dancers return to class and face new challenges that test their confidence. Through practice, encouragement, and courage, they learn that growth often comes from pushing past fear and believing in themselves. My daughter loves all things ballerina, and even at 10 she still enjoys looking through picture books like this.

Cartoon dogs wearing construction outfits on a steel beam, hold tools and plans. Colorful city skyline. Text: "Build, Dogs, Build" and "James Horvath".

🐶 Build Dogs Build – James Horvath

A group of hardworking dogs team up to construct a playground, each using their unique skills and tools. This fun, rhythmic story introduces teamwork, problem-solving, and the basics of construction in a way that’s engaging for young readers. This was my two-year-old’s pick, and we loved pointing out the objects and colors together.

Elephant on a nest with orange text "Horton Hatches the Egg" by Dr. Seuss on a teal background. Playful and whimsical mood.

🐘 Horton Hatches the Egg – Dr. Seuss

Horton the elephant agrees to sit on an egg for a careless bird and refuses to give up, no matter the challenges he faces. His loyalty and determination show the importance of keeping promises and doing what’s right, even when it’s difficult. My five-year-old picked this one, and it was a new Dr. Seuss book for all of us. I really appreciated the message about keeping your promises through actions, not just words.

Three illustrated badgers, two walking and one in a wagon, on a pastel book cover. Text: "Best Friends for Frances" by Russell Hoban.

🐭 Best Friends for Frances – Russell Hoban

Frances the badger navigates the ups and downs of friendship when she feels left out by her best friend, Thelma. Through everyday moments and honest emotions, the story gently explores jealousy, inclusion, and what it means to be a good friend. This was my eight-year-old son’s pick, and I think I was even more excited than the kids because A Bargain for Frances was one of my favorite reads when I was a child.

We all love reading new books! Go find you new read at your local library!
